Truly Needing God

I’ve heard many people over the years who have said that they don’t need God. That they can survive on their own. I know I’ve done this plenty of times, but you know something? We can’t survive on our own. If it weren’t for God keeping His hand on this little planet we call home, Earth would practically destroy itself.

Think about it. A few thousand years ago, God took His hand off of Earth for 40 days and 40 nights and what happened? A catastrophic Flood wiped out all but 8 people and a few animals that God saved.

We can do nothing without the Lord. If it weren’t for the Lord we mortal humans wouldn’t even remember to breathe.

Without the Lord; there would be no hope. If there was no God, then when we die that’s it. There would be no life after death. There would be no Heaven or Hell. We would just die and turn to dust. Everything we did on Earth would have no meaning.

But praise the Lord, there’s hope! Jesus Christ is our hope. He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and purchased a place in Heaven for us. Unfortunately, though, not many people know of this hope that we have.

Why?

Because we who have it aren’t sharing it with others! That to me is a very sad situation. We have the best gift that anyone ever needs, and we just hide it. We all know someone who doesn’t have this free gift; whether it is a friend, family member, or just an acquaintance. How very sad it will be when your friends or family stand before God and they don’t have their name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

The truth of the whole matter is we can’t survive without the Lord, and neither can your friends or family.

So what are we going to do about it?

Hey, Moriah.

About the last post: my link is on the side of your blog, and you linked my site in the article. Do you just mean that you couldn't link the precise article? 'Cause that's no big deal.

About this post: have you ever heard this joke?

Man decided that he did not need God anymore. Man could build skyscrapers, cure diseases, clone people, breed animals in captivity, etc., etc.

So, one day, a group of scientists decided to tell God to "get lost." They picked straws to see who would have to go and tell Him. One did.

God said, "So you think you don't need me? That you are as powerful as me? That you can do all the things I can do?"

The scientist said, "Yes, God."

So God challenged the scientist to a "life-making" contest. The confident scientist agreed, leaned down, and picked up a handful of dirt.

But God said, "No...no...no... Get your own dirt."

LOL. That's really an inadequate illustration of the absurdity of man's pride, but it's funny.

About something else: I just posted my final planned update on Dakota Fanning and "Hounddog."

Your post reminded me of the illustration below from my own life.

A college student from the church I went to in highschool, who has now graduated from Northland Baptist Bible College, once preached on "Christ's Cosmic Significance." I don't have a sermon outline saved, but I'll never forget this thought he talked about as he preached on Colossians 1:16-17: "If God was not Omniscient, was not able to in His infinite knowledge focus on every molecule in this universe, we would not exist. If God were to, at any time, cease to focus his Omniscience on every molecule in our bodies, we would simply fall apart, as would this entire universe. 'By [Christ], all things hold together.'"

BTW, was just checking out your blog via your comments on The Rebelution Modesty Survey results. Glad to see others joining the ranks of those who want to reach our youth for Christ.

To Gbfuteman: "If God was not Omniscient, was not able to in His infinite knowledge focus on every molecule in this universe, we would not exist. Very True, Gbfluteman. I agree; thanks for sharing that.
By the by, thanks for checking out my blog. It's only by God's grace that I do what I do.
Praise God! :)
